China-based panel maker BOE Technology began construction of a 10.5th-generation (10.5G) TFT-LCD factory with monthly production capacity of 90,000 glass substrates in northern China in December 2015 and plans to kick off production in the second quarter of 2018, according to the company.
With investment of CNY40 billion (US$6.26 billion), the factory will mainly produce 65- and 75-inch LCD TV panels. A 10.5G glass substrate is 1.8 times a 8.5G one in area and can be cut into six 75-inch panels, BOE Technology indicated. In comparison, a 7.5G glass substrate can be cut into two 75-inch TV panels.
BOE Technology has ordered many CVD (chemical vapor deposition) and PVD (physical vapor deposition) sets for the factory from Applied Materials.
