E-paper maker E Ink Holdings (EIH), through its China-based small- to medium-size TFT-LCD panel and e-paper subsidiary maker Transcend Optronics, on November 23 signed a strategic pact with Dalian DKE LCD, a China-based maker of industrial LCD panels and modules, to promote e-paper applications in the China market, according to EIH.

The partnership will combine EIH's e-paper technology with DKE's capability to develop price-competitive e-paper display solutions for IoT (Internet of Things) applications, EIH said. DKE has developed LCD panels and e-paper applications for industrial displays, smart power meters, smart labels and home-automating devices.

Through the cooperation, EIH will technologically help DKE develop e-paper products and DKE will use its STN (super-twisted nematic)-TFT manufacturing equipment to produce segmented e-paper modules which will be more competitive in price than e-paper modules based on active matrix TFT backplanes. DKE will also promote STN-based e-paper modules in place of STN-LCD displays.
