AU Optronics (AUO) will inaugurate a 6G LTPS TFT-LCD factory in Kunshan, eastern China, on November 16 and start production later in the fourth quarter. AUO expects production capacity to be fully utilized by the end of 2017, according to the company's Mobile Solution Business Group general manager Sean Chen.

The factory will mainly produce large-size high-resolution smartphone panels, In-cell touch panels and notebook-use LTPS panels, Chen said.

The factory will produce Full HD and HD In-cell touch panels for handset, which AUO expects will account for 40% of shipments of all handset-use panels in 2017.

Notebook-use LTPS panels will have Ultra HD resolutions and be suitable for high-end business-use notebooks.

In addition, AUO has attained a global market share of over 90% for notebook-use On-cell touch panels and expects shipments in 2016 to be more than double those in 2015. AUO will expand production capacity to meet demand.
